שלמה's marriage to פרעה's daughter, and which converts from עמון, מואב, מצרים and אדום may marry into the קהל
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a discussion about שלמה marrying פרעה's daughter. She was a first-generation מצרית, and a ברייתא about מנימין the Egyptian convert shows that this ban still applied. רב פפא answers that שלמה never truly married his foreign wives. The פסוק says ״ויתחתן״ only because he loved her so much. Next, רב אשי shows רבינא that the משנה about a פצוע דכא can't prove anything about a נתינה, because its beginning and end imply opposite things. A new משנה then teaches that male עמוני and מואבי converts are banned forever, but their women are permitted right away. מצרי and אדומי converts are banned for three generations, and רבי שמעון permits their women immediately as a received הלכה. The גמרא finds the source in the story of שאול asking about דוד's lineage. There אבנר answers דואג with עמוני ולא עמונית, and the בית המדרש confirms this הלכה. The answer to דואג's last question comes on the next amud.
Opening lines
הָא לָא צְרִיכָא לֵיהּ.
But this one did not need such things.
[וְתִיפּוֹק לֵיהּ] דְּהָא מִצְרִית רִאשׁוֹנָה הִיא!
But let him derive it from the fact that she is a first-generation Egyptian!
וְכִי תֵּימָא: הָנָךְ אָזְלִי לְעָלְמָא
And if you would say: those went off into the world,
וְהָנֵי אַחֲרִינֵי נִינְהוּ,
and these are other people,
