רבי יוחנן explains that his earlier ruling follows רבי יוסי, who holds that the holiness of ארץ ישראל from the second entry never ended, so תרומה nowadays is דאורייתא. The גמרא then challenges רבי יוחנן's view on mixtures in rabbinic matters, using a case of a מקוה.

Overview

רבי יוחנן explains that his ruling about a כהן who is an אנדרוגינוס follows רבי יוסי. A ברייתא from סדר עולם, which רבי יוחנן says was taught by רבי יוסי, shows that the second holiness of ארץ ישראל never ended, so תרומה nowadays is still דאורייתא. Next the גמרא asks whether רבי יוחנן really holds that a rabbinic mixture needs no majority, citing his comment 'until most of it' on a מקוה. Two answers follow. First, 'until most of it' may mean only that most must not be removed, so an equal mix is still fine. Second, the baskets case is different because we can reason 'שאני אומר'. The גמרא then tests רבי יוחנן's view that an אנדרוגינוס is a full male. It first works through the משנה's words 'נושא' and 'אבל לא נישא'. It then turns to רבי אליעזר's ruling on stoning, concluding that both opinions treat him as a male and argue only about stoning in two places. The amud ends as רב begins a new statement, which continues on the next amud.
