Overview

The משנה quotes רבי יוסי (with רבי שמעון) saying that an אנדרוגינוס כהן lets his wife eat תרומה, but a ברייתא quotes רבי יוסי alone saying an אנדרוגינוס is a creature of his own kind, never ruled male or female. The first opinion follows the ברייתא, because רבי יוסי left his partner and so must have changed his mind. שמואל keeps the משנה instead. The גמרא explains that although שמואל usually takes lone opinions into account, he does not do so when it would uproot a משנה. Next, the school of רב says the הלכה follows רבי יוסי on אנדרוגינוס and grafting, while שמואל says it follows him on hard labor (קושי) and forfeiture (קידוש). The גמרא explains each case: grafting before שביעית, where רב נחמן adds thirty extra days to every opinion's rooting time; and how long hard labor can last, where רבי יוסי says two weeks. It then begins the קידוש case of a vine spread over a friend's grain, and רבי יוסי's view continues on the next amud.
