Child rules for יבום and תרומה, the close of יש מותרות, and the new משנה about a woman whose husband returns
Overview
This amud opens by finishing a צריכותא, which explains why the תורה needs both "כנעוריה" and "זרע אין לה" for a כהן's daughter who wants to go back to eating תרומה. Next comes a series of קל וחומר arguments comparing יבום and תרומה. They ask whether a dead child counts like a living one, and whether a child from another husband counts. Each argument is blocked, either by "דרכיה דרכי נעם" or by the exact words of a פסוק. That closes פרק יש מותרות. A new פרק then opens with a משנה about a woman who remarried after hearing her husband died, and then he came back. She must leave both men, loses her marriage rights, and her children are ממזרים, though רבי יוסי, רבי אלעזר and רבי שמעון disagree on some points. The משנה also shows that a בית דין's ruling frees her from a קרבן. The גמרא then tries to prove that one witness is believed about a husband's death, bringing several sources. The last source, the ברייתא on "או הודע אליו," read as a case of one witness who says "you ate חלב," is challenged with the idea that silence counts as admitting. That discussion continues on the next amud.
