The opening of the גמרא on the משנה about the כהן גדול's טבילות on יום הכיפורים: the name of לשכת בית הפרוה, the linen sheet, and the value of his morning and afternoon garments.
Overview
The גמרא explains several details of the משנה about the כהן גדול's immersions on יום הכיפורים. First, רב יוסף says that פרוה, the name of the chamber, was a Persian sorcerer. Next, רב כהנא explains why the sheet spread around the כהן גדול was made of בוץ (fine linen). It reminds him that the special service of the day is done in linen garments. The גמרא then asks why the משנה adds up the value of the morning and afternoon garments. It answers that the total is a minimum, and the value may be shifted between the two sets as long as the total is kept. Finally, the גמרא notes that all opinions agree the morning garments must be the finer ones. רב הונא בריה דרב עילאי learns this from the four times ״בד״ appears in the פסוק, which teaches that the choicest linen is required.
