Mixing the blood of the פר and the שעיר on יום כיפור, and whether a bowl inside a bowl or bast inside a bowl counts as a חציצה
Overview
This amud finishes a ברייתא in which רבי יאשיה and רבי יונתן argue about the blood of the פר and the שעיר on יום כיפור. רבי יאשיה says the כהן גדול mixes the two bloods before sprinkling on the golden altar. רבי יונתן says each blood is sprinkled by itself. Each brings a פסוק, and רבי יונתן explains "אחת" as one set from each blood. A second, unnamed ברייתא supports mixing, and the גמרא says it follows רבי יאשיה, just like our משנה. Then the גמרא returns to the משנה's line "he placed the full into the empty." רמי בר חמא asks רב חסדא whether a מזרק placed inside another מזרק counts as a חציצה. Proofs from the משנה and from a כהן standing on a friend's foot are both pushed away. In a second version the question is whether this is a proper דרך שירות, and the answer is yes: "two vessels and one service." Finally רמי בר חמא asks about bast (palm fiber) inside the bowl. The proof from a sponge in מי חטאת is rejected because water is thin. In a second version רב חסדא rules that it is כשר with blood, which seeps through, but פסול with a קומץ, which cannot pass through.

רַבִּי יוֹנָתָן אוֹמֵר:
Rabbi Yonatan says:
מִזֶּה בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ,
from this one (the bull's blood) by itself,
וּמִזֶּה בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ.
and from that one (the goat's blood) by itself.

- Proofרב חסדא tries to answer from the משנה
- RejectionThe משנה means pouring, not setting inside
- ChallengePouring was already mentioned earlier in the משנה
- ResolutionA second pouring to mix the blood well
- ProofProof from a כהן standing on a vessel or a friend's foot
