Whether נעילה exempts ערבית, טבילה בזמנה מצוה, the meaning of a קרי on יום הכיפורים, and the close of מסכת יומא.

Overview

This last amud of מסכת יומא finishes the question of whether תפילת נעילה exempts a person from ערבית after יום הכיפורים. The גמרא answers that it is a dispute between תנאים, shown by when a בעל קרי may immerse on יום הכיפורים. A second ברייתא seems to flip רבי יוסי's view. The גמרא resolves this: one ruling is for someone who already davened נעילה, the other for someone who has not. This leads to the idea that the רבנן hold טבילה בזמנה מצוה, immersing on time is itself a מצוה. A ברייתא about ה׳'s name written on the skin seems to contradict רבי יוסי's view. The גמרא answers that the ruling against immersing after נעילה belongs to רבי יוסי בר יהודה, who holds 'it is enough to immerse at the end.' The amud then explains the wording of a ברייתא about rubbing before immersion. It closes with אגדה teaching that a קרי on יום הכיפורים is a good sign: forgiveness, עולם הבא, long life and children. A הדרן ends the מסכת.
