Topic

Intent about the skin of the tail and whether it makes a קרבן פיגול, plus the Torah source for why intent outside the time brings כרת but intent outside the place does not.

Overview

The גמרא asks how intent to eat the skin of the tail late can make a קרבן פיגול, since the tail is burned on the מזבח, not eaten. שמואל answers that our משנה follows רבי אליעזר, who counts switched intent, even though the next משנה follows the חכמים. רב הונא instead says the skin is not like the tail, so it is eaten. רב חסדא says the skin is like the tail, but the משנה is talking about a young goat's tail, which is eaten. The גמרא explains why each אמורא did not take the others' approach. It then brings a ברייתא about an עולה that seems to fit רב הונא and challenge רב חסדא, and רב חסדא gives two answers. Next the גמרא asks for the source that intent outside the place only disqualifies, while intent outside the time is פיגול with כרת. רבה reads one פסוק, but his reading gets stuck, so אביי begins a new approach from two separate פסוקים, which continues on the next amud.
