Topic
Two topics: (1) the source that a sacrifice slaughtered by a מתעסק (someone acting without awareness) is פסול; (2) whether the owner's intention, and not only the כהן's, can make an offering פיגול.
Overview
The גמרא first looks for the source that a קרבן slaughtered by a מתעסק, someone not paying attention to the act, is פסול. ״ושחט את בן הבקר״ shows that this is the proper way to do the מצוה, and ״לרצנכם תזבחהו״ shows that it is required. Next, the גמרא notes that our משנה's rule, that only the person doing the עבודה can ruin the offering with his thoughts, disagrees with רבי אלעזר ברבי יוסי. He holds that the owners can also cause פיגול, and רבא gives his source, ״והקריב המקריב״. אביי then says that three תנאים hold that when one person thinks and another acts, the thought counts: רבי אלעזר ברבי יוסי with קרבנות, רבי אליעזר with slaughtering for a non-Jew, and רבי שמעון בן אלעזר with carrying on שבת. The גמרא shows that these views are linked in one direction only. Whoever applies the idea in a weaker area must accept it in a stronger one, but not the other way around. Then פרק בית שמאי ends, and the new פרק, איזהו מקומן, begins with a משנה about where each קרבן is slaughtered. קדשי קדשים are slaughtered in the north. The משנה describes the blood service of the יום הכיפורים bull and goat, and then of the bulls and goats that are burned, and it continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
מִנַּיִן לַמִּתְעַסֵּק בְּקָדָשִׁים
From where do we know, regarding one who acts unawares with sacred offerings,
שֶׁהוּא פָּסוּל?
that it is invalid?
שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר ״וְשָׁחַט אֶת בֶּן הַבָּקָר לִפְנֵי ה׳״
As it says: "And he shall slaughter the young bull before ה׳"
– עַד שֶׁתְּהֵא שְׁחִיטָה
meaning: not unless the slaughter is
