Topic

Bones and tendons of an עולה that separate from the meat, whether they go up or become permitted, and a new משנה on things that fall off the מזבח.

Overview

The amud opens by finishing a ברייתא: tendons and bones of an עולה go up on the מזבח while attached to the meat, but come down once they separate. The גמרא shows this follows רבי. רבי sets the פסוק 'the whole' against the פסוק 'the flesh and the blood'. The first opinion lets even separated parts go up and uses the 'flesh and blood' פסוק for a different law. רבי זירא and רבה then limit the משנה's rule to parts that separated after the זריקה. Parts that separated before it are permitted for any use, which רבה learns from a גזירה שוה of ״לוֹ יִהְיֶה״ with an אשם. רב אדא בר אהבה challenges רבה from a ברייתא about מעילה, the ברייתא is reread to fit him, and רבי אלעזר is shown to disagree. A new משנה then teaches what happens to things that fall off the מזבח, including the חצות rule for limbs, and says the כבש and the vessels also sanctify. The גמרא starts asking which limbs the חצות rule covers, and the answer continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

יָכוֹל יַחְלוֹץ גִּידִין וַעֲצָמוֹת,

וְיַעֲלֶה בָּשָׂר לְגַבֵּי מִזְבֵּחַ?

and bring up only the flesh onto the altar?

תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר:

The verse teaches:

״וְהִקְטִיר הַכֹּהֵן אֶת הַכֹּל״.

"And the priest shall burn the whole."
