Redeeming a sold field after two years, selling a field in the יובל year itself, and שמואל's rulings on reversed sales
Overview
The משנה teaches that someone who sells his inherited field while the יובל system is in force may not buy it back before two years have passed, based on the פסוק 'במספר שני תבואות'. It explains which years count toward those two years, and רבי אליעזר adds that a buyer may end up eating three crops in two years. The גמרא reads the משנה's words 'not permitted' as a real איסור, so strong that the seller may not even jingle coins to tempt the buyer. Both seller and buyer are bound by an עשה. Next, רב and שמואל argue about a field sold during the יובל year itself. רב says it is sold but goes right back, and שמואל says it is not sold at all. The גמרא defends רב against a קל וחומר and two ברייתות. Finally, רב ענן reports two rulings of שמואל, one about the יובל-year field and one about a slave sold to non-Jews or outside ארץ ישראל. In one of them the sale is reversed and in the other it is not, but he forgot which. רב יוסף proves from a ברייתא that the slave's sale stands, so the field sold in the יובל year is not sold and the money goes back.
