Redeeming houses in walled cities (בתי ערי חומה): heirs, resale, leap years, gifts, הקדש, יובל, and הלל's תקנה
Overview
This amud opens with רבא explaining an earlier argument about interest. Everyone forbids צד אחד ברבית, and the real argument is about רבית על מנת להחזיר. The גמרא then works through the משנה on houses in walled cities. The words 'וְהָיְתָה גְּאֻלָּתוֹ' teach that the right to redeem passes to the seller's son and works against the buyer's son. The redemption year is counted from the first sale, and רבי אלעזר and רבי יוחנן argue over which buyer keeps the house forever. רבי אבא בר ממל shows that in a leap year the extra month counts, both for houses and for the age of lambs. רבי and the חכמים disagree about how long a 'full year' is. The word לצמיתות teaches that the house becomes the buyer's forever and that a gift is included, which the גמרא concludes is not רבי מאיר's view. A ברייתא then explains a house given to הקדש, and רב ספרא explains why the יובל does not return the house. Finally, a new משנה tells of הלל's תקנה against buyers who hid, and רבא learns from it that a conditional גט needs the husband to accept the money willingly.
