Which animals אבר מן החי applies to (for Jews and for בני נח), and the כזית needed to be liable.

Overview

The amud opens with an argument over whether אבר מן החי (a limb cut from a living animal) applies to non-kosher animals. רבי יהודה and רבי אלעזר say yes, because wherever blood is forbidden, limbs are forbidden too. The רבנן say it applies only to animals whose meat is permitted. The גמרא explains that רבי יהודה does not really need the פסוק, since for him one איסור can take hold on another. A ברייתא then lists three views: רבי אלעזר includes every animal and bird, the חכמים include only kosher species, and רבי מאיר includes only a kosher בהמה, based on "מבקרך ומצאנך". רב says the whole argument is only about Jews, while a בן נח is forbidden even from non-kosher animals. A ברייתא and a משנה about a non-kosher bird support this. Finally, רב rules that one is liable for אבר מן החי only for eating a כזית. The גמרא defends this against a challenge and then begins another challenge that continues on the next amud.
