Blood and juices given out by roasting and salting: the knife-pressure distinction, fish salted with birds, and kosher meat salted with טרפה meat

Overview

This amud opens with the last word of an earlier instruction: tilt the vessel to pour the fat off the drippings from roasting meat. רב אחא בריה דרב איקא challenges רב אשי by setting two statements of שמואל against each other. שמואל holds that roasted meat whose redness is gone no longer gives out blood, yet he forbids a loaf of bread that roasted meat was cut on. רב אשי answers that the pressure of the knife squeezes out extra blood. Next, רב נחמן rules that fish and birds salted together are forbidden. The גמרא explains that the case is a vessel with holes: the soft-skinned fish finish giving out their blood first, and then they absorb the blood the hard-skinned birds are still giving out. Finally, kosher meat salted together with טרפה meat is brought to רבא. He forbids it, learning from the word "הטמאים" that the juice of non-kosher meat is also forbidden.
