Overview

This amud opens with the last words of an earlier explanation: a mixture does not need the purity of תרומה, because the eater never takes in a כזית of the תרומה within כדי אכילת פרס. Then רבי יונתן quotes רבי: someone who eats actual תרומה that is a שלישי may not eat תרומה, but may still touch it. The גמרא explains why this ruling and the earlier ruling of עולא are both needed. Next, רב יצחק בר שמואל בר מרתא rules that eating a שלישי of חולין prepared with the purity of קודש does not stop a person from eating קודש, because only real קודש creates a רביעי. רמי בר חמא challenges him from a משנה. That משנה says eating a שלישי makes a person a שני for קודש, even though its case must be about חולין prepared like תרומה. רב יצחק answers that the purity of תרומה already counts as impurity when it comes to קודש. The גמרא supports this from the משנה about clothing, where each group's clothing is מדרס for the group above it. רבא starts to reject that proof by saying מדרס is a special case, and his explanation continues on the next amud.
