Carrying in a ship and in an אכסדרה: the מחלוקת of רב and שמואל, and the גזירות that keep roofs, courtyards and קרפפות separate.
Overview
The amud opens with the end of the מחלוקת between רב and שמואל about carrying in a ספינה. רב says one may carry in the whole ship because it has walls. שמואל says only four אמות, because the walls are only meant to keep water out. שמואל himself rules that the הלכה follows רב, though רב agrees about a ship that was turned over to be tarred. רב אחא בריה דרבא says שמואל's ruling was really said about a different case: an אכסדרה standing in a field. רב and שמואל argue there about whether פי תקרה יורד וסותם applies. The גמרא then challenges each side. The challenge to רב, who follows רבי מאיר, is answered with the גזירה of רב יצחק בר אבדימי. The challenge to שמואל, who follows the רבנן, is answered with a גזירה in case the roof shrinks, which is noticeable for a קרפף but not for a roof. Finally, רב יהודה begins listing the domains according to רבי מאיר, and his list continues on the next amud.
