Whether קנין פירות is like קנין הגוף: the dispute of רבי יוחנן and ריש לקיש about reciting over בכורים during יובל, with proofs, a parallel among תנאים, and support for each side

Overview

רבי יוחנן and ריש לקיש argue about someone who buys land while יובל is in force, when the land must go back to the seller. Both agree he brings בכורים, but רבי יוחנן says he also recites the declaration and ריש לקיש says he does not. The root of the argument is whether owning the produce (קנין פירות) counts like owning the land itself (קנין הגוף). A צריכא explains why this argument had to be stated alongside the earlier case of a sale for produce. Two משניות seem to support רבי יוחנן. They are answered first by saying they speak of a time without יובל, and then, using רב חסדא, by saying they speak of the first יובל. The גמרא next suggests that the same question splits the תנאים in a ברייתא about a son who bought a field from his father. רב נחמן בר יצחק rejects this, saying רבי יהודה and רבי שמעון learn their rule from an extra word in the פסוק. רב יוסף shows that רבי יוחנן must hold קנין פירות כקנין הגוף, or almost no one could bring בכורים. Finally, רבא announces that a פסוק and a ברייתא support ריש לקיש, and the proofs continue on the next amud.
