The penalties for remarrying on a flawed גט, and the גמרא on dating a גט by a kingdom and writing the correct place
Overview
This amud finishes the long משנה about a woman who remarried based on a flawed גט. She loses her rights to תרומה or מעשר and to her כתובה, and if the husbands die, each brother must do חליצה but none may do יבום. The משנה applies the same penalties to a גט with the wrong name or city. It also applies them to co-wives who remarried by mistake when the ערוה or יבמה turned out to be an איילונית, and to a case where the scribe swapped the גט and the receipt. רבי אלעזר disagrees and says a גט found with the husband only after some time is still valid. The גמרא then explains that the 'kingdom that is not legitimate' is רומי. עולא says a גט is dated by the kingdom to keep peace with the government, and the harsh penalties fit רבי מאיר's view that any change in the חכמים' set wording invalidates a גט. The גמרא shows why each dating case in the משנה is needed. It explains that 'he was in the east and wrote in the west' is about the scribe, who must write the place where he actually sits. A new statement of שמואל begins at the end and continues on the next amud.
