The dangling limb and liquids that count at the moment of separation; רבי עקיבא's question about five offerings in one הֶעְלֵם, and רבי יהושע's קל וחומר from מעילה
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a משנה about a limb still hanging from a living body. On ערב פסח, boil-sufferers in ירושלים had such a limb cut almost through and torn off on a thorn, so both the patient and the doctor stayed טהור for the קרבן פסח. The גמרא brings שמואל's rule that a wiped leek becomes מוכשר at the moment the water leaves it. It then asks why the dangling limb does not likewise make the patient טמא as it separates. The answer, borrowed from רב יוסף's explanation of a ברייתא about rain wrung from the clothes of a זב and a טמא מת, is that something torn away with full force has no moment of contact after separating. A new משנה follows, in which רבי עקיבא asks whether five offerings in one הֶעְלֵם bring one חטאת or five. In one version the case is slaughtering outside, and in רבי שמעון's version it is eating נותר. רבי יהושע answers with a קל וחומר from מעילה, and רבי עקיבא refutes it, because מעילה has strict rules that נותר lacks. The גמרא explains רבי שמעון's version, then asks whether רבי יהושע accepted the refutation. It brings a ברייתא where the first view makes him liable for each offering, while רבי יוסי ברבי יהודה requires only one חטאת.
Opening lines
מוּכֵּי שְׁחִין עוֹשִׂין בִּירוּשָׁלַיִם,
people afflicted with boils would do this in Jerusalem:
הוֹלֵךְ לוֹ עֶרֶב פֶּסַח אֵצֶל הָרוֹפֵא,
he would go on Passover eve to the doctor,
וְחוֹתְכוֹ עַד שֶׁמַּנִּיחַ בּוֹ כְּשַׂעֲרָה,
and he would cut it until he left it attached by a hair's width,
וְתוֹחֲבוֹ בְּסִירָא,
and he would stick it onto a thorn,
