Whether night counts toward the time of a קרבן (the זב on the night of the eighth), and how a woman with many births or discharges brings her offerings.
Overview
The גמרא opens with a ברייתא: בית הלל learn from the extra word ״לְבַת״ that a woman who miscarries on the night of her 81st day must bring another קרבן. רבי הושעיא asks בר קפרא whether the same applies to a זב who sees three sightings on the night of his eighth day. בר קפרא answers that the rule rests on that special verse, so it covers only the יולדת. The גמרא then asks whether two ברייתות argue about the זב depending on whether night is מחוסר זמן. רבי אלעזר says both agree that night is מחוסר זמן; they simply speak about different kinds of זב. רבי יוחנן's ruling about sightings split between night and day is then examined, and the גמרא shows it follows the view that night is מחוסר זמן. Its new point is that one night sighting still combines with two daytime sightings. A new משנה teaches that a woman with many births or discharges brings one קרבן, and tells how רבן שמעון בן גמליאל brought down the price of birds. The גמרא then brings the dispute between רבי יוחנן בן נורי and רבי עקיבא over how she words her offering. רבא explains it as חטאת against טבילה, and רב פפא begins to challenge that explanation, a challenge that continues on the next amud.
