An unfaithful wife's worn items, the כתובה of an אילונית and of a widow married to a כהן גדול, and the new chapter on a husband's promise to feed his wife's daughter
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a line about a wife keeping her own worn items (בלאות) that still exist. A תנא recites a ברייתא saying an unfaithful wife loses them. רב נחמן objects that her clothes did not sin and corrects the wording, while רבי יוחנן says that ברייתא is only the view of רבי מנחם סתימתאה. Next, רב הונא says an אילונית gets a כתובה only if the husband knew about her condition, but a widow married to a כהן גדול gets one either way. רב יהודה says the widow also needs the husband to have known. Two ברייתות refute רב הונא, and the גמרא explains how the wording of the משנה misled him. The chapter אלמנה ניזונת then ends, and a new chapter opens with a משנה about a husband who promised to feed his wife's daughter for five years. That promise works like a real debt: it binds a second husband too, survives divorce, and can even be collected from property he sold. The גמרא brings a dispute between רבי יוחנן and ריש לקיש about someone who wrote 'I owe you a מנה' in a שטר with no witnesses. It then starts to test that dispute against our משנה.
