Vows a husband makes or allows that harm his wife: adornment, visiting her father, and going to mourners or celebrations
Overview
The amud opens by explaining a source about a wife who vows not to adorn herself. First the גמרא says the case is about דברים שבינו לבינה. That answer only fits רב הונא, not רב אדא בר אהבה, so the גמרא gives a new answer: she tied her adornment to תשמיש המטה, following רב כהנא's rule. Then it asks why she can't just skip adorning (people would call her repulsive), and why he can't keep her for a week or two (his silence makes her think he hates her). Next, the גמרא explains רבי יוסי's time limits for poor and wealthy women. A new משנה follows about a husband who bans his wife from her father's house, from a בית האבל or בית המשתה, or who sets humiliating conditions. אביי and רבה בר עולא each resolve a contradiction in the time limits about festivals. After two teachings of רבי יוחנן about a bride, the גמרא returns to the משנה. It begins a question about the house of feasting that continues on the next amud.
