Overview

On the previous daf, רבי and the רבנן argued about several men who were with a נערה המאורסה in an unusual way. רבי זירא says that even רבי agrees all the men pay the קנס. The death penalty is different only because the פסוק says 'לבדו'. The רבנן use 'לבדו' for another lesson: the man can be put to death alone, as רבי יונתן teaches. Next, the גמרא shows how רבי יוחנן learns two laws from the words 'בעולת בעל'. The גמרא then asks whether קידושי ביאה takes effect at the start or at the end of the act. אמימר in the name of רבא answers that it takes effect at the end, because that is what the man has in mind. Last, the גמרא asks whether ביאה creates נשואין or only אירוסין. אביי's proof from a משנה is pushed aside, and רבא begins a new proof from a ברייתא about a girl three years and one day old, which continues on the next amud.
