תרומה for a ארוסה of a כהן according to בן בג בג, and the reason for בית שמאי's דינר minimum for קידושין
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a discussion about a בת ישראל betrothed to a כהן: may she eat תרומה before the חופה? רבי יהודה בן בתירא learned from an עבד כנעני that she may by תורה law, but the רבנן stopped her because of עולא's worry that she would share it with her family. The גמרא explains that בן בג בג rejects that comparison, because a slave's sale can never be cancelled for a defect (סימפון), while a woman's קידושין might be. Since both views keep her from eating in practice, the גמרא finds the difference in three cases: קיבל, מסר and הלך, where only one of the two worries applies. Then the גמרא returns to the משנה and asks why בית שמאי require a דינר for קידושין with money. רבי זירא says a woman cares about her dignity, and after אביי's challenge from רבי ינאי's daughters he limits this to cases where she did not see the amount. רב יוסף gives another reason: רב אסי's rule that money in the תורה means valuable צורי coinage. The גמרא then quotes רב אסי's rule on its own and begins to question whether it is really a fixed rule.
