How the משנה's חליפין example fits the views of רב ששת, רב נחמן and ריש לקיש, and how הקדש acquires through money and speech
Overview
The גמרא finishes its reading of the משנה: every kind of item, not only vessels, can be used for חליפין, and it proves this from the משנה's example of trading animals. It then asks how that example fit its first idea, that a coin makes חליפין. For רב ששת, the example means פירות (like meat) can make חליפין. For רב נחמן, who disagrees, the example means money owed for an ox is paid with a cow. That works because רב נחמן holds like רבי יוחנן that money acquires by Torah law, and the חכמים' decree requiring משיכה does not cover rare cases. ריש לקיש holds משיכה comes from the Torah, so he must agree with רב ששת. A new משנה then teaches that הקדש acquires through money and even through speech alone, while a regular person needs a physical act. A ברייתא explains both rules, and its last sentence continues on the next amud.
