Bringing offerings when unsure what was vowed: mixed loaves and wafers, why a מנחת נסכים is excluded, and the dispute over forgotten numbers of עשרונים.
Overview
The amud opens with a suggestion for someone who vowed an oven-baked מנחה but forgot whether he said חלות or רקיקין: bring both together. The גמרא defends this using רבי שמעון. One קמיצה from either type counts for both, and the leftover oil goes to the כהנים either way. רב כהנא then asks why the forgetful person does not also worry about a מנחת נסכים. The גמרא answers with five differences that put the מנחת נסכים in a separate group. Next comes the משנה's case of someone who forgot how many עשרונים he promised. A ברייתא records that חכמים require one vessel of sixty, while רבי requires every amount from one to sixty separately. רב חסדא explains the dispute as being about bringing חולין into the עזרה. רבא says it is about mixing a חובה with a נדבה. אביי then challenges how the two handfuls in רבא's approach can be taken and burned, and his question about the order of burning continues on the next amud.
