Minimum amounts for vows to the מקדש: metals, wine, oil, and an עולה
Overview
Just before this passage, the גמרא taught that someone who vows 'הרי עלי למזבח' must bring לבונה, because only לבונה goes entirely onto the altar. It finishes testing that rule against the bird עולה, wine נסכים and מנחת נסכים. Next it explains the משנה's minimums for vows of metal. Gold and silver must be at least a דינר. Copper must be worth at least a silver מעה, or enough for a small hook according to רבי אליעזר בן יעקב. Iron must be enough for a כליה עורב. A new משנה sets the minimum for wine at three לוגין and for oil at one לוג, while רבי says three. The גמרא gives the פסוקים for wine and debates the root of the oil argument, and רב פפא gives in to a ברייתא. The amud ends with a new משנה on vowing an עולה, including cases where he forgot which animal he named, and that ruling continues on the next amud.
