Vows of offerings: forgotten or unclear vows, the value of a vowed animal, רבי's view on bringing a bigger animal, and the six boxes for נדבה money
Overview
The amud opens with the end of a משנה about vows of offerings. If the person forgot exactly which animal he named, he must bring every animal that could match, and sometimes birds too. If he named no animal at all, a lamb is enough. Next, the משנה sets prices for vowed animals. If he names only the animal, the price includes its נסכים. If he names the price himself, the animal alone must be worth it, and two cheaper animals or a different color do not count. The תנא קמא and רבי argue over whether a bigger animal can replace a smaller one he promised. The גמרא explains that the lamb-or-bird argument depends on local speech, and it brings a ברייתא about vowing an עולה worth a סלע. It then shows that the bull-and-calf ruling follows רבי, so the משנה mixes his view with that of רבנן. Finally, the גמרא asks why the מקדש had six boxes for נדבה money and records several answers. בר פדא's answer continues on the next amud.
