The six נדבה collection boxes, leftover money from the כהן גדול's עשירית האיפה, and replacing a blemished עולה
Overview
The גמרא finishes listing בר פדא's explanation of the six נדבה collection boxes (שופרות). It then explains why the other views reject each earlier explanation: חזקיה (no fear of fights), רבי יוחנן (no fear of rotting coins), זעירי (we do not set a משנה like a lone opinion), and בר פדא (his categories are all leftover money, and the מעה goes to the שקלים). Two new explanations follow. שמואל says the six boxes are for leftover money from six kinds of קרבנות, and רבי אושעיא says almost the same but puts קינין in place of the כהן גדול's עשירית האיפה. The גמרא explains each one's choice, which leads to an argument over whether leftover money from the כהן גדול's עשירית האיפה goes to נדבה or must rot. רב חסדא and רבה read a ברייתא differently on this, matching an argument between רבי יוחנן and רבי אלעזר. A challenge from a משנה is answered, and רב נחמן בר רב יצחק proves from רבי יהודה's teaching that the money rots. Finally, a new משנה teaches that the redemption money of a blemished עולה may buy a different number or kind of animal, while רבי forbids this.
