Challenges to רב הונא's view that for רבי יוסי parts of a קרבן are תרי גופי for פיגול: the two loaves, רב אשי's ברייתא, and רבינא's מנחה case
Overview
The גמרא is testing רב הונא's view that, for רבי יוסי, two parts of a קרבן (like the right and left thighs) are תרי גופי, two separate bodies, so a פיגול intention about one does not spread to the other. First it asks how, if that is so, intentions about half a כזית from each of the two loaves could combine. רב הונא assigns that source to רבי, but the גמרא asks which view רבי follows, and the difficulty returns. The גמרא tries reading the ברייתא as 'both lambs' so that it fits the רבנן and rejects רבי מאיר. But the strong word 'לעולם' shows the ברייתא follows רבי יוסי, so the problem stands. Next, רב אשי's ברייתא in the name of רבי יוסי shows that an intention about pouring the leftover blood makes the meat פיגול. By קל וחומר, an intention about one thigh should surely make the other thigh פיגול. רבינא then starts a parallel קל וחומר from a מנחה: an intention about burning the קומץ makes the שיריים פיגול. That argument finishes on the next amud.

אֶלָּא אִי אָמְרַתְּ
But if you say
תְּרֵי גּוּפֵי נִינְהוּ –
they are two bodies,
מִי מִיצְטָרְפִי?
would they combine?
הָא מַנִּי? רַבִּי הִיא,
Whose is this? It is רבי,
The steps (19)
- ChallengeIf they are two bodies, how can they combine?
- ResolutionThe source follows רבי, not רבי יוסי
- ProofFor רבי, halves combine only if he said "from both"
- ChallengeWhose view does רבי follow? The difficulty returns
- ResolutionReading the ברייתא as 'both lambs' so it fits the רבנן
- ResolutionWhat the ברייתא comes to reject: רבי מאיר
- ChallengeThe word 'never' fits only if the ברייתא rejects two views
- ChallengeA further problem: רב אשי's ברייתא from רבי in the name of רבי יוסי
- StatementThe ברייתא's examples where the offering is not פיגול
- StatementThe ברייתא's example where the offering is פיגול
- QuestionWhat becomes פיגול from intending to pour the leftover blood?
- ChallengeIt can't be the blood, because blood doesn't carry פיגול
- ResponseThe meat is what becomes פיגול
- ChallengeIf an intention about the blood spreads to the meat, an intention about one thigh should spread to the other
- Challengeרבינא's second challenge from the קומץ of a מנחה
- QuestionWhat becomes פיגול when he intends to burn the קומץ tomorrow?
- ChallengeThe קומץ itself cannot become פיגול
- ResponseThe שיריים are what become פיגול
- ChallengeStarting the קל וחומר from the מנחה
