רבי אליעזר's view on impurity late in a נזירות term, and the מחלוקת of רבי יוחנן and ריש לקיש about a נזירות vow made in a cemetery.

Overview

The גמרא finishes explaining the earlier משנה. רבי אליעזר holds that impurity after a נזירות term is complete cancels only seven days. He agrees that everything is cancelled when someone explicitly vowed thirty full days. The hundred-day case is sent back to the earlier discussion of בר פדא and רב מתנא. Then a new משנה teaches that someone who vows נזירות inside a בית הקברות does not count those days and brings no impurity offering. If he leaves and re-enters, he does count the days and does bring the offering, unless, says רבי אליעזר, he re-enters on the same day. In the גמרא, רבי יוחנן says such a vow takes effect and waits until he is pure, while ריש לקיש says it does not take effect at all. ריש לקיש deflects רבי יוחנן's first challenge from the משנה. רבי יוחנן then brings a ברייתא that gives מלקות to a טמא person who vowed, and the answer comes on the next amud.

וְנִטְמָא יוֹם שְׁלֹשִׁים — סוֹתֵר אֶת הַכֹּל,

and he became impure on day thirty: it cancels everything.
