A נזיר who vows in a בית הקברות: does the vow take effect, does he get מלקות, and must he linger there to be lashed?
Overview
This amud continues the argument between רבי יוחנן and ריש לקיש about someone who takes a נזירות vow while standing in a cemetery. ריש לקיש first deflects a challenge by saying the source is about someone who left and came back in. רבי יוחנן then brings a ברייתא showing that the vow of an impure person does take effect. Because of this, מר בר רב אשי recasts the argument. Both agree the vow takes effect, and they only argue about whether he gets מלקות. רבי יוחנן challenges ריש לקיש with inferences from the משנה and a ברייתא, and the גמרא answers both. Finally, an explicit ברייתא says such a person receives forty lashes, and ריש לקיש is refuted (תיובתא). רבא then asks whether he must linger in the cemetery before he is lashed. The גמרא starts working out what case רבא could mean, and the discussion continues on the next amud.
