End of the female נזיר discussion, burning the נזיר's shaved hair under the pot, and the waving that ends נזירות

Overview

The amud opens with the end of רבי שמעון שזורי's reason that a female נזיר does not shave at the Temple entrance: young כהנים might be aroused by her. The חכמים challenge him from the סוטה, who stands before the כהנים with her hair uncovered. He answers that the נזירה is adorned with makeup and the סוטה is not. A new משנה then teaches that a נזיר burns his shaved hair under the pot cooking his שלמים. The תנא קמא limits this to a pure shaving done in the מקדש, while רבי מאיר excludes only a טמא נזיר who shaved outside. The גמרא brings a ברייתא: gravy from the שלמים is put on the hair, and the חטאת or אשם pot also works after the fact. It learns both rules from the words ״זֶבַח הַשְּׁלָמִים״. Another ברייתא gives three views (רבי מאיר, רבי יהודה and חכמים) on whose hair goes under the pot. Finally, a new משנה describes the waving of the cooked foreleg and the מצות, after which the נזיר may drink wine and become טמא למת.

Opening lines

שֶׁמָּא יִתְגָּרוּ בָּהּ פִּרְחֵי כְהוּנָּה.

lest the young priests become aroused by her.

אָמַר לוֹ: לִדְבָרֶיךָ סוֹטָה תּוֹכִיחַ,

He said to him: According to your words, a sota will prove otherwise,

דִּכְתִיב בָּהּ ״וְהֶעֱמִידָהּ לִפְנֵי ה׳״,

as it is written about her: "And he shall set her before the Lord,"

וְלָא חָיְישִׁינַן שֶׁמָּא יִתְגָּרוּ בָּהּ פִּרְחֵי כְהוּנָּה!

and we are not concerned that the young priests will become aroused by her!
