Does holiness lapse by itself? בר פדא's view, the delayed עולה, why a pledge to הקדש cannot be taken back, and a new question on בר פדא

Overview

The גמרא is looking at a ברייתא about a person who makes an animal holy now and gives it a different kind of holiness that starts after thirty days. The ברייתא's two cases only make sense if one is about קדושת הגוף and the other is about קדושת דמים. That suggests even קדושת הגוף can disappear by itself. This seems to refute בר פדא, who said holiness never lapses by itself. רב פפא answers that בר פדא reads the ברייתא as speaking only of a case where the owner did not say 'from now it is a שלמים.' The animal still becomes an עולה after thirty days, just like a woman who is betrothed 'after thirty days.' The ruling teaches that even if the owner changes his mind, he cannot back out. Even according to the view that a woman can back out, הקדש is different, because words spoken to the Most High are as final as handing an item to a person. The amud ends with a story: two scholars sitting before a dozing רבי ירמיה begin a question built on בר פדא's view, and the question continues on the next amud.

דְּסָלְקָא דַּעְתָּךְ אָמֵינָא:

For it might enter your mind to say:

קְדוּשַּׁת הַגּוּף לָא פָּקְעָה בִּכְדִי,

Inherent holiness does not lapse by itself,
