Whether moving to a new place (שינוי מקום) in the middle of eating or drinking requires a new ברכה, and how far that rule reaches
Overview
This amud finishes רבי יוחנן's ruling that neither a change of wine (שינוי יין) nor a change of place (שינוי מקום) requires a new ברכה. The גמרא challenges him from a ברייתא that says a change of place does require a new ברכה, and it concludes that רבי יוחנן is refuted. רב חסדא, quoting רב הונא, then limits the ברייתא's rule to moving from one house to another. Moving between spots in the same house does not count. רב אידי בר אבין supports this from the ברייתא of רב הינק's school. The גמרא explains that רב הונא simply had not heard that ברייתא. רב חסדא adds a second limit of his own: the rule applies only to foods that do not need an after-ברכה in their place. For foods like bread, a person returns to his first meal, so no new ברכה is needed. רב ששת disagrees and says a new ברכה is needed either way. A ברייתא about a group that leaves to greet a חתן or כלה is then used to challenge רב חסדא. רב נחמן בר יצחק begins to answer, and his answer continues on the next amud.
