אימורין of a פסח brought בטומאה, and the differences between פסח מצרים and פסח דורות
Overview
This amud opens by finishing a question about a קרבן פסח brought בטומאה, where the meat may be eaten even by impure people. רבא rules that impure people who eat the אימורין are not liable either, because the אימורין rule is learned from the meat rule. רבי זירא then asks where the אימורין of פסח מצרים were burned. אביי answers that they may simply have been roasted and eaten, since the doorframe was the only 'altar' in מצרים. A new משנה lists how פסח מצרים differed from פסח דורות: it was taken on the tenth, its blood was put on the doorframe with hyssop, and it was eaten in haste. The גמרא learns from the word הזה that taking on the tenth applied only in מצרים. It then tests that method against many פסוקים: eating at night, the ערל, the בן נכר, the תושב and שכיר, household מילה, breaking a bone, and eating raw. Each time, ועבדת את העבודה הזאת carries the rule to all generations, and the limiting word (הזה, בו, ממנו) is given a different job. Eating in haste stays only for מצרים because of the word אותו. The amud ends by asking what 'פסח דורות applies all seven days' refers to, and the discussion continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
מַהוּ? מִדְּאִישְׁתְּרַי טוּמְאַת בָּשָׂר —
What is the law? Since impurity regarding the meat was permitted —
אִישְׁתְּרַי נָמֵי טוּמְאַת אֵימוּרִין,
was impurity regarding the sacrificial portions also permitted?
אוֹ דִילְמָא: מַאי דְּאִישְׁתְּרַי — אִישְׁתְּרַי,
Or perhaps: what was permitted is permitted,
מַאי דְּלָא אִישְׁתְּרַי — לָא אִישְׁתְּרַי.
and what was not permitted is not permitted.
