Moving a bed (מטה) on Shabbat that has or had money (מעות) on it: the corrected version of רב's ruling, and the role of בין השמשות and מוקצה
Overview
This amud opens at the end of an objection to an earlier version of רב's ruling about a bed (מטה) set aside for money (מעות). The challenger argues with a קל וחומר: an unlit lamp (נר) may be moved, so a bed that never had money placed on it surely may be moved too. The גמרא therefore restates רב's ruling in corrected form. A bed designated for money becomes forbidden only once money was actually placed on it. A bed that was not designated is forbidden only while money is on it, provided the money was not on it during בין השמשות. עולא then reports an objection by רבי אליעזר from a משנה about a wagon's undercarriage (מוכני). That משנה implies the wagon is permitted once the money is gone, even if money was on it during בין השמשות. The גמרא answers that the משנה follows רבי שמעון, who does not hold of מוקצה, while רב follows רבי יהודה, who does.
