Overview

The גמרא wants to find the principle behind the argument between רבי חייא (two counts) and בר קפרא (one count). First it suggests they argue about איסור כולל according to רבי יוסי. That fails for מליקה, where both איסורים start at the same moment. So the גמרא says they argue about איסור בבת אחת, two איסורים that begin together. It then rereads the זר and בעל מום cases so that both איסורים begin at once: a boy who became an adult at that moment, or a cut with a טמא knife. Next the גמרא looks at the oaths each of them swore about what רבי taught. If the argument is according to רבי יוסי, בר קפרא would have to call רבי חייא a liar. So the גמרא moves the argument to רבי שמעון, but then בר קפרא's oath seems pointless, and the גמרא calls that a קשיא. It also asks how רבי חייא could explain בר קפרא's version, and begins to answer that רבי taught בר קפרא two cases of exemption.
