Whether years can be added to a person's set lifespan; the end of פרק החולץ; and the new משנה on whether a second גט, מאמר, ביאה or חליצה takes effect
Overview
This amud finishes a ברייתא about the פסוק that promises a full lifespan. רבי עקיבא holds that a deserving person only gets to complete the years set for him, while the חכמים hold that years can even be added. The חכמים challenge רבי עקיבא from חזקיהו, who was promised fifteen extra years. רבי עקיבא answers that those years were his own, and supports this from the prophecy about יאשיהו, whose grandfather מנשה had not yet been born. The רבנן reject the proof, since the prophecy only says 'house of דוד.' Then רב יוסף remarks that the משנה's line about a wife or יבמה who died was not needed, and פרק החולץ ends. The new פרק opens with a מחלוקת between רבן גמליאל and the חכמים about whether a second גט, מאמר, ביאה or חליצה takes effect after a first one. The משנה then goes through cases of a יבם doing these acts in different orders, and ends with the rule that nothing works after חליצה or ביאה.
