Whether a woman married or betrothed to a כהן who is a פצוע דכא may eat תרומה: אביי and רבא's reasons, and רבי יוחנן's question about a בת גרים, settled by a ברייתא.
Overview
The גמרא asks whether a woman betrothed to a כהן who is a פצוע דכא may eat תרומה. A proof from רבי אלעזר and רבי שמעון is rejected, because a פצוע דכא may not marry a woman born Jewish, and whether he can feed a בת גרים was a question רבי יוחנן asked and never got answered. אביי and רבא each show a case where he does have power to feed: a wife he married before the injury, or his Canaanite slaves. Then each explains why he rejects the other's proof. The גמרא next tells the story of רבי יוחנן's question to רבי אושעיא, who stayed silent and said it had no solution. The question cannot fit רבי יהודה (she never eats) or רבי יוסי (she always eats), so it must follow רבי אליעזר בן יעקב: does a Jewish-born mother give her daughter only fitness, or full holiness? A ברייתא brought by רבי אחא בר חיננא shows that she gains only fitness, so she eats. The amud ends as a new dispute opens with רב.
