Does חופה alone disqualify a woman who is פסולה לכהונה? The מחלוקת of רב and שמואל, the case of a girl under three, and רמי בר חמא's link to the משנה.
Overview
The גמרא finishes a מחלוקת between רב and שמואל. רב holds that a חופה by itself, without ביאה, counts for women who are unfit to marry a כהן. שמואל holds that it does not count. שמואל adds that רב agrees with him about a girl younger than three years and one day: her ביאה has no legal meaning, so her חופה has none either. רבא backs this up with a ברייתא that lists all the legal effects of ביאה with a girl who is three years and one day old. From that ברייתא he infers that a girl who can be disqualified through ביאה can be disqualified through חופה, and a younger girl cannot be disqualified by either. Finally, רמי בר חמא says the main question of חופה לפסולות is the same as the argument in the משנה between רבי מאיר on one side and רבי אלעזר and רבי שמעון on the other.
