The כהן גדול's טבילות and קידושין on יום הכפורים, and the meaning of קרצו in the שחיטה of the תמיד
Overview
The גמרא looks for the source that the כהן גדול must immerse (טבילה) each time he switches between בגדי זהב and בגדי לבן on יום הכפורים. Two קל וחומר arguments fail, because each set of garments has its own advantage. So the sources are פסוקים: 'כתנת בד קדש ילבש' for the switch into white, and 'בגדי קדש הם ורחץ... ולבשם' for the switch back to gold. A ברייתא lists the five services and their garments. It then learns from 'ופשט... ורחץ, ורחץ... ולבש' that each טבילה needs two קידושין of hands and feet, and that the טבילה must be done במקום קדוש. רבי יהודה learns קידוש from the קל וחומר of רבי אלעזר ברבי שמעון instead. רב חסדא and רב אחא בר יעקב disagree about whether the קידוש is done while dressed or undressed, and the two readings cannot be combined, or there would be fifteen קידושין. Finally, the גמרא explains that the משנה's word קרצו means slaughtering, and that the כהן גדול cut most of both סימנים. It uses ריש לקיש's statement to show this, and the discussion continues on the next amud.

תָּנָא דְּבֵי רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל, קַל וָחוֹמֶר:
The school of Rabbi Yishmael taught: an a fortiori argument:
מָה בִּגְדֵי זָהָב
Just as the golden garments,
שֶׁאֵין כֹּהֵן נִכְנָס בָּהֶן לִפְנַי וְלִפְנִים —
in which the priest does not enter the innermost sanctum,
טָעוּן טְבִילָה,
require immersion,
