Finishing the כהן גדול's שחיטה, and אביי's order of the daily עבודה with the גמרא's sources for each link

Overview

This עמוד opens at the end of the discussion of the כהן גדול's שחיטה on יום כיפור. The גמרא confirms that cutting most of the סימנים is fully valid, with not even a rabbinic פסול. Another כהן still finishes the cut, because completing it is a מצוה. Then אביי lays out, from received tradition and following אבא שאול, the full order of the daily services in the מקדש. His list runs from the morning wood piles to the afternoon תמיד, and it closes with the פסוק 'עליה השלם כל הקרבנות כולן'. The גמרא then goes through the list item by item to find a source or reason for each one. A ברייתא and סברא show that the big pile comes before the קטורת pile. The double 'עליה' shows that the קטורת pile comes before the two logs. Three answers (רבי ירמיה, רבינא, רב אשי) defend why the logs come before cleaning the inner מזבח. For why the inner מזבח comes before the lamps, אביי admits he knows it only by tradition, while רבא cites ריש לקיש's rule 'אין מעבירין על המצות', which continues on the next עמוד.
