The burned פרים and שעירים: when their carriers become טמא, where they are burned (בירה and the three בית הדשן), and whether לינה, early יציאה, or a partial exit disqualifies them

Overview

The משנה finishes the laws of the burned פרים and שעירים. The כהנים carry them out on poles, and each carrier's clothes become טמא once he passes the wall of the עזרה. רבי שמעון holds that only the burners become טמא, once the fire has caught most of the offering, and once the meat is fully scorched no one becomes טמא at all. The גמרא then explains the word בירה: רבי יוחנן says it is one spot on the הר הבית, while ריש לקיש says it is a name for the whole בית המקדש. Two versions follow of the three בית הדשן, the places of ashes: one in the עזרה, one on the הר הבית, and one outside the three מחנות. רבי ירמיה asks whether לינה disqualifies the burned bulls and goats, and every proof brought is pushed off. רבי אלעזר asks the same about leaving the עזרה too early, and that proof from לוי is pushed off too. Finally, רבי אלעזר asks how a small part of a limb is counted when about half the animal has gone out, a question that continues on the next amud.
