The impurity of נבלת עוף טהור according to רבי מאיר, counting ראשון and שני, and the three camps for the burned bulls and goats
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a point from the previous page: according to רבי מאיר, a כזית of נבלת עוף טהור is enough to make food impure. Not yet having reached the throat does not count as a missing action. A משנה in טהרות that requires a כביצה is brought as a challenge. The גמרא answers that this rule follows the רבנן, even though the first and last parts of that משנה follow רבי מאיר. Next, רבי זירא gives one rule for counting levels of impurity: we count ראשון and שני only from something that can make a person impure. This rule settles two questions, one about נבלת עוף טהור and one about foods joined by liquid. The גמרא then returns to the משנה about the burned bulls and goats. A ברייתא shows that the carriers' clothes become impure once the offering leaves one camp, while the burning itself happens outside three camps, which it proves from extra words in the verses. Finally, the גמרא explains that רבי שמעון uses 'outside the camp' for רבי אליעזר's גזירה שוה linking these offerings to the פרה אדומה. That comparison continues on the next amud.
