How בן עזאי's rule for עולה is derived, and the new משנה on which services wrong intent can ruin, including the challenge about intent during קבלה
Overview
The amud opens by finishing the discussion of how בן עזאי knows that an עולה brought שלא לשמה is פסול. In one approach, רב הונא's derivation from חטאת and פסח works for עולה but not for אשם, because אשם is never communal. In another approach, the derivation fails and בן עזאי had a received tradition, while רב הונא's קל וחומר was only meant to sharpen his students. Then a new משנה teaches that a פסח or חטאת is פסול if wrong intent comes during שחיטה, קבלה, הילוך or זריקה, even with mixed intent. רבי שמעון and רבי אליעזר disagree about whether wrong intent during הילוך counts. The גמרא asks how קבלה can be on the list, quoting a ברייתא where רבי עקיבא, confirmed by רבי טרפון, says intent during קבלה does not count like an action. רבא answers that the ברייתא is about פיגול intent and the משנה is about שלא לשמה intent, and the משנה's wording supports him. The גמרא then challenges רבא with a ברייתא showing that פיגול intent does work during שחיטה and קבלה, and its answer comes on the next amud.
